    <strong>ONE of the biggest sheds to be built in Australia is<br />
    taking shape at <a title="Toowong Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/toowong,4066"><br />
    Toowong</a> in <a title="Brisbane Real Estate Agents" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/region/brisbane"><br />
    Brisbane</a>’s west.</strong>

The six-storey-high, 89m long acoustic shed is being built at the<br />
Legacy Way tunnel worksite.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the shed would house the tunnel boring<br />
machines and shield motorists and residents from noise and dust.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“I have a plan to deal with <a title="Brisbane Property Managers" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/brisbane,4000"><br />
  Brisbane</a>’s traffic congestion and we’re getting on with the<br />
  job of upgrading our most congested suburban roads and building<br />
  vital new transport infrastructure,” he said.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Cr Quirk said the acoustic shed made of Colorbond steel and<br />
measuring 89m long, 77m wide and 29m high would be a temporary<br />
feature beside the Western Freeway.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
It will be taken down late next year when the tunnel is completed.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“The acoustic shed is made with more than 1000 tonnes of structural<br />
steel, and in terms of floor space, is nearly 500 times bigger than<br />
your average backyard tool shed, so it’s no small feat to<br />
construct,” he said.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
The tunnel boring machines (or TBMs) would operate 24 hours.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
When completed the acoustic shed will be fitted with a series of<br />
travelling cranes, which will be used to assemble the two TBMs.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Legacy Way is the council’s 4.6km road tunnel from the Western<br />
Freeway at Toowong to the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at <a title="Kelvin Grove Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/kelvin-grove,4059"><br />
  Kelvin Grove</a>. Once open, Legacy Way will almost halve<br />
  peak-hour travel times between the Centenary Bridge and the ICB.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Cr Quirk again acknowledged the Federal Labor Government’s support<br />
for the project through $  500 million in funding.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Toowong Councillor Peter Matic said the location of the Legacy Way<br />
Tunnel Control Centre, which will be next to the existing Clem7<br />
Tunnel Control Centre at <a title="Bowen Hills Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/bowen-hills,4006"><br />
  Bowen Hills</a>, would have less impact for residents.
</p>

“We’ll need to go through every development application with a fine<br />
tooth comb to ensure paid parking is ruled out of every<br />
development,” Cr Dick said.

“It should be automatic now in developments if the Council is true<br />
blue about stopping paid parking.
</p>

“They need to be tougher in their conditions.”

Plans for the Rochedale Town Centre were amended to include a<br />
condition for free parking after it was revealed last week there<br />
was nothing to prevent a similar scheme to Westfield Chermside<br />
being adopted.

<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Cr Cooper said she agreed in committee last week to amend a<br />
condition to ensure free parking.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“I said it would be easy to amend a condition to ensure that the<br />
parking was provided free of charge, that is what we agreed to do<br />
at committee, and that is what we have done,” Cr Cooper said.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
The Rochedale Town Centre development application was approved last<br />
night for stage one of construction.

The plan, which would add more basement parking and extend the<br />
shopping centre, has raised concerns Westfield will charge shoppers<br />
for parking something it is already doing at <a title="Chermside Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/chermside,4032"><br />
  Chermside</a> and will start doing at <a title="Carindale Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/carindale,4152"><br />
  Carindale</a> in March.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
A Westfield spokeswoman said there were no immediate plans to<br />
introduce paid parking at Garden City which already has a 111-space<br />
park ‘n’ ride feature but did not rule it out.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“At this stage, Westfield has not decided to introduce paid parking<br />
at its other <a title="Brisbane Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/region/brisbane"><br />
  Brisbane</a> centres but will continue to review how its carparks<br />
  can operate most efficiently,” the spokeswoman said.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Mansfield MP Phil Reeves, who is lobbying council to intervene, has<br />
written to residents seeking public support and has received 1050<br />
people against paid parking and 19 for it.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“Not only would paid parking at Garden City be a slap in the face<br />
of the local community, it would undoubtedly create parking chaos<br />
on local streets in <a title="Upper Mount Gravatt Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/upper-mount-gravatt,4122"><br />
  Upper Mt Gravatt</a> and <a title="Macgregor Property Management" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/macgregor,4109"><br />
  MacGregor</a>,” he said.

<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
Legal advice provided to Local Government Minister Paul Lucas said<br />
council could change its planning scheme to force Westfield to seek<br />
council approval before it introduced paid parking.
</p>
<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
But Deputy Mayor Adrian Schrinner said any attempt to change the<br />
planning laws to stop shopping centres introducing paid parking<br />
would lead to ratepayers footing the bill for compensation claims.

<p style="color:#000000;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px;">
“The only thing Labor’s plan will deliver is more red tape and<br />
millions of dollars in ratepayer funds topping up the bank accounts<br />
of shopping centre giants,” he said.

More than 20 shops remain vacant in the precinct, but Stones Corner<br />
retailers believe the good times are about to return after<br />
  <a title="Brisbane City Property Managers" href="http://rentalexpresspropertymanagement.com.au/property-management/suburb/brisbane,4000"><br />
  Brisbane City</a> Council gave the go-ahead for a $  550,000<br />
  revitalisation project.

The project will see new street furniture and gardens installed<br />
along with a landmark artwork by acclaimed Queensland artist Scott<br />
Redford.

Stones Corner Community and Economic Development Association<br />
president Simon Clarke said retailers in the strip were optimistic.

“There are a few empty shops but I can guarantee there are no more<br />
empty shops now than there were two years ago.”

Mr Clarke said the completion of the eastern bus corridor, regular<br />
Jan Power markets and the opening of several new coffee shops were<br />
signs of confidence in the future of the shopping precinct.

  Property Management</a> which manages Stones Corner Village, said<br />
  both the opening of Aldi and the centre refurbishment would bring<br />
  life to the precinct.

bright.

“Several women’s dress shops have opened recently which is<br />
promising, we need more retailers here to complement one another,”<br />
he said. “Being close to the major stadiums on such a busy road has<br />
been good.”

After opening a successful basketball specialty store in<br />
